Small Cooling Water Flow Meter for Welding Machines and Spindle Cooling

Small Cooling Water Flow Meter for Welding Machines and Spindle Cooling

Welding machines, furnaces and machine spindles rely on small cooling-water flows; loss of cooling can damage equipment quickly. The small-bore YF-C3M clamp-on meter monitors cooling flow on lines from DN6 so a controller or alarm can react before damage occurs.

The challenge

  • Cooling lines are small, from about DN6.
  • Low or lost flow must be obvious to the machine controller.
  • Cutting into coolant lines is undesirable on existing machines.
  • Coolant can be warm and the area can be harsh.

The solution: YF-C3M

The YF-C3M is a compact PTFE-coated clamp-on meter for small cooling-water pipes with a standard analog output. See the YF-C3M specifications →

  • Diameter φ9.53-φ110 mm (DN6-DN100).
  • ±2% accuracy over 0.3-5.0 m/s.
  • Medium temperature 0-120 °C.
  • 4-20 mA output for machine interlock or alarm.
  • Aluminium-alloy body with PTFE coating, 24 VDC supply.

Configuration used in this application

Meter YF-C3M clamp-on transit-time
Pipe diameter φ9.53-φ110 mm (DN6-DN100)
Accuracy ±2% (0.3-5.0 m/s)
Flow range 0.1-5.0 m/s
Body material Aluminium alloy, PTFE outer coating
Medium temperature 0-120 °C
Power supply 24 VDC @ 80 mA
Analog output 4-20 mA

How it is deployed

  1. Identify a straight accessible section of the small coolant line.
  2. Clamp on the sensor and confirm a stable signal.
  3. Wire 24 VDC and connect 4-20 mA to the machine interlock or alarm.
  4. Set a low-flow threshold so loss of cooling triggers protection.

What the operator gets

  • Continuous confirmation of cooling flow.
  • Early warning before equipment overheats.
  • Installation without draining or cutting coolant lines.
  • Compact, protected build for machine environments.

Frequently asked questions

Can the meter trigger an alarm if cooling is lost?

Yes, the 4-20 mA output can be used by the machine controller or interlock to detect low or lost flow and raise an alarm.

What small pipe sizes does it support?

It covers about phi9.53 to phi110 mm, i.e. DN6 to DN100.

Can it handle warm coolant?

The medium-temperature range is 0-120 C.
