Non-Intrusive Flow Measurement in Food & Beverage: Process Water and CIP

Non-Intrusive Flow Measurement in Food & Beverage: Process Water and CIP

Food and beverage plants measure water, ingredients, CIP (clean-in-place) return and utility lines under strict hygiene and uptime requirements. A clamp-on ultrasonic meter has a specific advantage here: nothing touches the fluid. The transducers sit on the outside of the pipe, so there are no wetted parts to contaminate product, no breach of a hygienic line and no need to re-validate a process after installation.

Where they are used

  • Process and ingredient water — measure flow on stainless lines without cutting (YF-C3 / YF-C3M).
  • CIP supply and return — monitor cleaning flow and verify coverage while keeping the line intact.
  • Cooling and utility water — fixed meters for continuous monitoring (YF-C6).
  • Temporary verification — portable meters for balancing and spot checks (YF-P1).

Why it suits food and beverage

  • Non-intrusive: zero wetted parts, no contamination risk.
  • No shutdown — install on operating stainless pipe.
  • No pressure loss and no moving parts.
  • Works across the stainless steel lines common in plants.
  • Useful for water accounting and CIP verification.

Note: clamp-on measurement is applied to the outside of the pipe and does not replace wetted hygienic meters where a specific certified custody point is required. Our team can help identify which lines suit a non-intrusive meter.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clamp-on meter touch the product?

No, transducers mount externally so no part contacts the fluid.

Can it be installed during production?

Yes, on operating pipes without cutting or shutdown.
